Born on the Wirral and trained at East 15 Acting School.

Richard won Best Feature Film at the Latina Film Commission for his debut film The Young (2011), in which he starred and directed. The post-apocalyptic drama also secured Best Director and Best Feature at the Wirral International Film Festival.

Richard went on to write and direct two more films, Precipice Hours (2013) and Saddenly Now (2016) before embarking on the Wilfred Owen biopic The Burying Party (2018), scooping 16 awards including Best Director at the Los Angeles Movie Awards, Best Picture at the New York Film Awards and Best Feature Film at the New Renaissance Film Festival, making its UK Premiere.

He most recently played the lead role in the romantic drama Nocturne (2020), winning Best Actor at the London Independent Film Awards and nominated at the Paris Film Festival.
